About Us

Bassetlaw Food Bank

Bassetlaw Food bank is a non-profit, charitable organisation which distributes food parcels to people who are suffering genuine hardship and poverty, living in Bassetlaw and have received an approved referral. We have a robust referral protocol in place and do not offer a self-referral or 'drop in' facility.

We are non – judgemental, inclusive and provide emergency food aid in the form of ' 3 day' nutritionally balanced food parcels to people of all backgrounds, who are in genuine need.

Since April 1st 2013 Bassetlaw Food Bank have distributed a total of 3845 emergency aid food parcels within the Local Bassetlaw Community. The average cost of a basic 3 day food parcel is £25.00. Based on the number of parcels issued, the total estimated cost of food distributed by the Bassetlaw Food Bank is approx £96,000. In order to meet the increasing demand of referrals, we have a Distribution Centre in Worksop and Retford now open five days a week, between 10am – 2pm.

Outside of these times service users can access emergency aid parcels in Worksop, from the BCVS Priorswell Road and in Retford from The Well during office hours. Most referrals can be dealt with the same day, if not, in most cases within 24 hours.

In order to ensure that the people in the rural areas of Bassetlaw are able to access assistance we also have  two 'satellite stations' one in Harworth/Bircotes and the other in Misterton, where food parcels can be collected more locally within the district.

We now have a satellite station at the Civic Centre in Carlton-in-Lindrick where clients will be able to collect emergency food parcels from without having to travel into Worksop. Helen and the team are looking forward to working in partnership with Bassetlaw Food Bank not only just as a satellite station but also as a collection point for donations. The charity relies heavily on food donations from the general public and a collection box is in the entrance hall at the Civic Centre. There is also a food collection box in your local Co-Op on Doncaster Road.
